Miyako Restaurant

Miyako Restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel at the edge of Waikiki across the street from Kapiolani Park and next to San Souci Beach.  I had first heard about this place several years ago from @nanigurl who had been there a few times prior.  Since I trust her taste in food, I had to check it out and since then, it’s become one of my favorite haunts.  It’s a great location because you don’t have to venture into the heart of Waikiki where it can be congested, hard to find parking and of course, crowded!

Miyako is a hidden gem offering authentic Japanese food.  A bit on the pricier side, if you have the chance it’s worth trying out.  They offer everything from your traditional Kaiseki meals, teishoku dishes, sushi, Shabu Shabu and nabes.   Their dining area sports breathtaking views since it overlooks the beach & the Waikiki skyline. You can also host small to larger parties in their private rooms as well as take a date to dine outdoors for a romantic dinner on the veranda under a private cabana (minimum dining fee of $30/person for cabana seating, reservations must be made).

I had a chance to go there recently. Of course I’ve been here many times but was never smart enough to bring a camera and document my meal.  But not this time, check it out!

A view from the patio overlooking the beach and ocean as well as the Waikiki skyline.

Cold, fresh tofu with wasabi flavored Tobiko eggs. The wasabi flavoring is very light and the dish is refreshing.

This was the ahi carpaccio. It was so good, I could probably eat plate after plate of this stuff.

The house salad. It was so good. Dressing was a soy vinaigrette with katsuobushi.

More chilled fresh tofu w/ cucumbers & tomato. The side dish to add to the tofu had grated daikon, green onion and katsuoboshi.

Tempura & steak teishoku. The tempura was light and fluffy.

A closer look at some of the vegetable tempura.

Can't forget the sake!

A look at everything!

Dinner came with dessert, fresh papaya and vanilla ice cream.

There are so may other things to eat there I wish I had more than one stomach.  The last time I was there I also had some sushi and the house specialty wafu steak.  Check it out for yourself!
