The Tourist.

There isn’t a whole lot to do on Christmas night because most places are closed.  One place that is open are the movie theaters.  So tonight, with my mom and her husband we went to check out the movie The Tourist starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.

Going into the movie I was under the impression that this was a high action, suspenseful secret agent type of movie.  It was even more appealing with the likes of Johnny Depp who I feel is a great actor after pulling off the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.  As with Angelina Jolie, who kicked ass in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Salt.  So anticipation was high.

I thought the storyline was pretty good, and there is some misdirection which some people enjoy since movies like that can keep you on your toes (ala Inception).

However, for me the movie was just average. It didn’t live up to the hype as far as action is concerned.  I also thought Angelina Jolie looked anorexic.  The chemistry between the two actors wasn’t there like how you could come to expect between two Hollywood blockbuster stars.

*Spoiler Alert* the ending is not what you expect and once you do see how the ending is played out it seems anti-climactic.  There is a missing connection on how the man being sought after (Alexander Pierce) came to be.  In the end the movie makes up for it with a short explanation and you’re left with the feeling…I wish they had a deeper explanation other than plastic surgery.

For all of you out there who have read this far, I’d wait for the movie to hit Netflix.  It’s still a movie worth seeing just don’t spend the $10 to watch it in theaters.
