Fast Foods for a reason.

Today while reading up on a few stories on AllTop, I came across this article called “This is What Really Hides In Taco Bell’s “Beef.” Check it out when you can, it’s actually pretty interesting.  Did you know–only 36% of their “beef” mixture is actually beef while the other 64% is just tasteless fibers & fillers?  Pretty eye-opening.  What I’d really like to know is what “part” of the beef is really in that 36% of beef?

Anyway, this article got me thinking…people still eat fast foods even if they know that a lot of what goes into what they eat isn’t very healthy or…isn’t as nutritious as some of those companies claim their food to be.  I’m sure a lot has to do with price and convenience but after what you read in that article above…or if you were one of those that actually saw the movie “Supersize Me…”

…why would you ever continue to eat fast food?!  I guess it’s part of the American culture…and again, it’s the cost and convenience thing.  I also think there is something called popular belief.  You know, the things you think you hear in the advertising and from a “friend-of-a-friend?”

Example, many folks may think Jamba Juice is quite healthy for you since they use a lot of fruits and dairy products.  I think most of what they serve actually is pretty good for you but there are a few things like the Peanut Butter Moo’d Power Smoothie….a belt-busting 1,170 calories, 169 grams of sugar and 30 grams of fat!  Heck you see those Subway commercials with the infamous Jared in them and hear about how he lost all that weight eating Subway sandwiches right?  Well, a 6″ meatball sub w/ cheese has 860 calories, 42 grams of fat and 2,480 grams of sodium!  Imagine if you got the foot long or the meal with that sucker?

Anyway, I think you get the picture.  I’ll leave you to think about what you’re gonna eat for dinner tonight….but here’s a little fun for you…if you had to choose your top 10 list of national fast food chains that you’d eat at on a weekly basis…who would they be?  Even if you don’t eat fast foods or wouldn’t…play along here…I think I’d go with the list below based on a mixture of health, convenience and taste.
1.  Subway
2.  Togo’s
3.  Baja Fresh
4.  In-N-Out Burger
5.  Wendy’s
6.  Arby’s
7.  Panda Express
8.  Popeye’s
9.  KFC
10.  Jack in the Box

Yes…sorry McDonald’s or Burger King.  I’d have you up on that list if there were 2 more slots. 😛

    I can’t come up with 10 places that I’d go to on a weekly basis, but my top 3 are: 1. In-N-Out 2. McDonalds 3. Burger King!

    • We should open an In-N-Out franchise here in Hawaii.

        If it were possible, it definitely would have been done by now. Rumor is that they do not franchise and they have no plans to ever open a restaurant in Hawaii. TBSS for us, but I think that mentality (keeping it privatized) is what has contributed to their success.
