The crane in Japan is a mystical or holy creature and is said to live for a thousand years.  According to an ancient Japanese legend, anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane.   The thousand cranes has also become a symbol of world peace.

Due to the recent events in Japan, many groups have come forth to fold thousands of origami cranes and send them to Japan to instill hope and support.  Each crane contains a personalized message and they are strung together.  In fact one group locally here in Hawaii has already started the process know as “A Flock of Prayers for Japan.

Online, you can go to some sites like 1,000 Cranes for Japan and create your own virtual version.  Check it out, it’s easy to send a message, so I hope you do.
